The war room fell hard for Jared Wiley, and it showed at the 223rd pick: 67 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. The bottom line is a respectable B.
On value alone, Muhammad III makes the weekend a net positive. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get a go-to option on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They let Bo Nix come to them and pounced at the Round 2 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy little value on Troy Fautanu in No. 40, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Sedrick Van Pran at the 67th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They liked Max Melton enough to skip the value, taking him in the 100th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Tommy Eichenberg at pick No. 102 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
No edge and no loss on Cole Bishop in the 141st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Steal is underselling it; Moose Muhammad III at pick No. 181 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They talked themselves into Jared Wiley at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
