There is conviction, and then there is this. The Patriots took JT Daniels a full 141 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.
That Harris pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value.
Wyatt Milum in the Round 1 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Booker. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They barely believed it either: Tate Ratledge still on the board at the 69th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Malaki Starks at Round 3, Pick 13 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Ashton Jeanty at the 104th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steal is underselling it; Jihaad Campbell at the Round 5 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Somehow T.J. Sanders was still sitting there in No. 152, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They robbed the room for Josaiah Stewart here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Lander Barton at pick No. 198 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Bryson Nesbit at slot 214 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Tre Harris in pick 215, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Circle this one: Quinshon Judkins at the 217th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They will replay Alfred Collins at No. 220 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They talked themselves into Jimmy Horn Jr. at pick No. 224, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
JT Daniels in pick 238 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
Chase Lundt in Round 7, Pick 36 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
