Priorities are a choice, and the Packers made a strange one, taking Cole Bishop at safety in the 91st overall pick with edge rusher, cornerback and other spots crying out for the pick instead. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Every board in the league had Bishop lower, and that gap is the story. Tight end was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid up for Edgerrin Cooper at pick 41 when waiting would have done the job. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They paid a round early for Kiran Amegadjie in the Round 2 slot, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jaden Hicks in Round 3, Pick 25 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Cole Bishop at safety with edge rusher, cornerback and other spots open.
Ben Sinnott in the 126th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
