Somewhere a general manager is explaining how JD Bertrand got past him. The Packers do not have to explain a thing at No. 245. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.

Spending an early pick on safety with quarterback, running back and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 26
In slot 25 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Javon Bullard · S · rank 42
No drama and no debate, Javon Bullard went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 9. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 57
By-the-book stuff, Payton Wilson at pick No. 58 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Max Melton · CB · rank 76
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Max Melton at No. 88 is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Dadrion Taylor-Demerson · S · rank 86
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, running back and other spots to take Dadrion Taylor-Demerson, a safety that was not the priority.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 129
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ben Sinnott. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Layden Robinson · OG · rank 175
A straight-up fair deal on Layden Robinson at the 169th pick, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Jaylen Harrell · DE-EDGE · rank 208
Jaylen Harrell at pick 202 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Nathaniel Watson · LB · rank 212
A clean, defensible pick in the 219th pick with a little surplus value in Nathaniel Watson. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · JD Bertrand · LB · rank 220
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, JD Bertrand in Round 7, Pick 25, plain and simple. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Tylan Grable · OT · rank 231
You do not let an offensive lineman like Tylan Grable reach the 255th overall pick and blink. They did not. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
