The needs board said one thing and the Packers did another, using pick No. 126 on James Williams while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots waited. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Melton steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The Cooper reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 26
In slot 25 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 49
They went early on Edgerrin Cooper in No. 41, and the value did not follow. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 61
Kingsley Suamataia in the 58th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Max Melton · CB · rank 76
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 88, where Max Melton graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Dominick Puni · OT · rank 88
A reasonable price with a little left over, Dominick Puni in pick 91. It fills a real need, too.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · James Williams · LB · rank 124
A want over a need in the Round 4 slot: James Williams adds a linebacker while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots keeps waiting.
