New York Giants

Grand theft in the 235th overall pick: the Giants steal Bertrand and grade out a A-.

Call it larceny. JD Bertrand sat on the board until pick 235, and the Giants did not need to be asked twice. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.

If Beebe pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.

Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.32 · Pick 32 · Ladd McConkey · WR · rank 32
In the 32nd pick they get a go-to option on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Braden Fiske · DL · rank 53
Braden Fiske at slot 39 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.17 · Pick 49 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 46
J.J. McCarthy at pick No. 49 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 76
This one needs a full-page explanation: Cooper Beebe in No. 56, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Ricky Pearsall · WR · rank 58
They read the board right and Ricky Pearsall was the payoff at the Round 3 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Bucky Irving · RB · rank 93
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bucky Irving. The roster fit checks out.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 99
They paid sticker price for Christian Mahogany in the 95th overall pick, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.6 · Pick 106 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 94
Cam Hart slipping to pick 106 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.15 · Pick 151 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 146
Fair-plus on Roger Rosengarten, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.7 · Pick 182 · M.J. Devonshire · CB · rank 182
M.J. Devonshire in the 182nd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R6.39 · Pick 214 · Tip Reiman · TE · rank 225
The board had cheaper options than Tip Reiman at pick No. 214, and it noticed. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.15 · Pick 235 · JD Bertrand · LB · rank 211
Steal is underselling it; JD Bertrand at No. 235 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R7.32 · Pick 252 · Tyler Owens · S · rank 228
Tyler Owens in Round 7, Pick 32 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
