The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Giants reached some 151 spots for Devin Leary, and value like that does not grow back. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Giants paired the rookies with proven help, Kaden Elliss leading the way. The roster is better shaped than it was, with safety chief among the fixes.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Rome Odunze went about where he belonged in the 8th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Value said wait; Max Melton in No. 39 says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Cooper Beebe in pick 43 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Kris Jenkins in the 47th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Mike Sainristil at slot 73 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Roger Rosengarten in the Round 4 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached a country mile for Isaiah Davis at the 132nd pick, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
Devin Leary at pick 140 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They reached into another round for Tanor Bortolini, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tanner McLachlan in pick No. 200 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They liked Tyler Owens enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 6, Pick 45. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
