This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Josiah Trotter, the No. 56 name on the board, stolen at the 86th overall pick.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. They will need Davis to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 9 they get a press-man option on the boundary. A clean fit for the roster.
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 37 with a little surplus value in Dillon Thieneman. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A linebacker of that caliber at the 86th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for J.C. Davis. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value with a capital V on DeMonte Capehart in the 145th pick, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Demond Claiborne at Round 5, Pick 8 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Pat Coogan at par in No. 186, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Josh Cameron at slot 192 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A tidy little value on Eric McAlister in the 193rd overall pick, a step better than break-even. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
