The Giants clearly saw something nobody else did in Kaleb Elarms-Orr, taking him 72 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Slaughter. For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Adding Christian Darrisaw by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Kayden McDonald and all.
Pick-by-Pick
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 1 slot with a little surplus value in Kayden McDonald. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
In the 31st overall pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They liked Blake Miller enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 37. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
D'Angelo Ponds in the 49th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They read the board right and Emmanuel Pregnon was the payoff at pick 55. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They will replay Jake Slaughter at pick No. 82 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value with a capital V on Sam Roush in Round 4, Pick 5, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Kaleb Proctor at the Round 4 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They talked themselves into Kaleb Elarms-Orr at the 111th pick, and the board did not agree. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Aamil Wagner in pick No. 145 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
