The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Every board in the league had Gore Jr. lower, and that gap is the story. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. The Walker value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through safety.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A real need, handled.
A quiet steal in the 34th pick: Brian Thomas Jr. for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
T'Vondre Sweat at pick 68 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They let Devontez Walker come to them and pounced at slot 103. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Cedric Gray at the 121st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
No edge and no loss on Elijah Jones in No. 137; it is a wash and a sensible one. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jaheim Bell at Round 6, Pick 5 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Khristian Boyd at the 193rd pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A tidy bit of business in Round 7, Pick 6, where Jaylan Ford graded well above the range. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Value said wait; Frank Gore Jr. in slot 231 says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
