The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in Barryn Sorrell, taking him 156 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
So much rides on Cam Ward that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.
The Kiser steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The Cowboys clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
In the 15th overall pick they get a bell-cow for the offense, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Taking Tyler Warren in slot 33 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nice patience on Emeka Egbuka, who had no business lasting to the 34th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy little value on Jihaad Campbell in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Good price on Azareye'h Thomas in No. 65, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Alfred Collins at pick No. 67 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid a round early for Ozzy Trapilo in the 76th overall pick, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Willie Lampkin. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Cobee Bryant at slot 117 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Ajani Cornelius at pick 150 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Damien Martinez at the 170th pick is the proof. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They reached a country mile for Barryn Sorrell at Round 5, Pick 33, and the board is aghast. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They robbed the room for Cody Simon here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jason Marshall Jr. at the 190th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled JJ Pegues all the way to pick 211, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Trevor Etienne in pick No. 221 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Jack Kiser in the 249th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
