The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named edge rusher, a need the Chargers walked right past. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Davis. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with interior defensive lineman the one that mattered most.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 5 they get a matchup weapon at tight end. A real need, handled.
A tidy little value on Troy Fautanu in No. 37, a step better than break-even. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A straight-up fair deal on Blake Corum at Round 3, Pick 5, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Tyler Davis slipping to slot 105 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A quiet steal in pick No. 142: Cam Hart for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They did well to land Michael Barrett in the 183rd overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Trevor Keegan in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
