You can hear the double-takes from here. The Cowboys took Isaiah Davis at Round 5, Pick 1, roughly 42 spots before his name belonged. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Clark falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through linebacker.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
Good work on the whole, with linebacker the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 30 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
By-the-book stuff, Kingsley Suamataia at pick 56 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Christian Haynes in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Sedrick Van Pran at Round 3, Pick 24 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
McKinnley Jackson at the 93rd pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. The roster fit checks out.
Khyree Jackson at the 97th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jarrian Jones in pick No. 124. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Value said wait; Isaiah Davis in pick 137 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Christian Jones at the 174th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
De'Corian Clark slid further than he should have, and Round 6, Pick 37 is lovely value for the wide receiver. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jordan Whittington in slot 245 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
