The Cowboys spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. This is how you run a draft, and the A- reflects it.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Reaching for Whittington left real value on the table behind him. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.
Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
Adonai Mitchell in No. 37 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good price on Kiran Amegadjie in the 56th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, McKinnley Jackson at pick 87 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Zak Zinter at slot 100 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Tommy Eichenberg at par in Round 4, Pick 24, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Value with a capital V on James Williams in the 142nd overall pick, a genuine coup. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They paid sticker price for Jaylan Ford in pick No. 174, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Myles Jones at No. 212 is the proof. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They reached a country mile for Jordan Whittington at pick 245, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
