You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cowboys did exactly that with Fadil Diggs in Round 4, Pick 17. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
The Judkins value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They have staked the next five years on Shedeur Sanders, which is the only story that really matters here.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Shedeur Sanders at No. 2 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
In slot 17 they get a lead back with juice at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Tyler Warren in Round 2, Pick 1, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They robbed the room for Nick Emmanwori here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Isaiah Bond in pick 49 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nice patience on Alfred Collins, who had no business lasting to pick No. 67. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Tre Harris at slot 76 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Fadil Diggs at the 118th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Quinshon Judkins in Round 5, Pick 31 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jared Wilson reach No. 172 and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
