Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Khyree Jackson, the No. 105 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 135.
If Allen pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Kamren Kinchens in the 25th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jackson Powers-Johnson a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Steal is underselling it; Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at pick 57 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Junior Colson at pick No. 88 is the proof. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Cooper Beebe in Round 3, Pick 28 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Braelon Allen at the Round 4 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They robbed the room for Khyree Jackson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taulia Tagovailoa at the 203rd pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Taking JD Bertrand in the 217th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Christian Jones in the 219th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Circle this one: Blake Watson at Round 7, Pick 26 is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
