Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Packers spent Round 6, Pick 27 on Dominique Hampton, a name most had 33 spots down the list.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

The phones were busy but the ledger stayed level. Quantity was the play, for better or worse.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 25
In the 25th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. A real need, handled.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 52
Nothing to complain about; Junior Colson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · Kiran Amegadjie · OT · rank 66
By-the-book stuff, Kiran Amegadjie at pick No. 59 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
R3.23 · Pick 86 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 85
They took Jaden Hicks at par in Round 3, Pick 23, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 100
A premium they did not need to pay, Cam Hart a notch or two before his time. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Maason Smith · DT · rank 110
Maason Smith at the 91st pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.23 · Pick 123 · Isaac Guerendo · RB · rank 128
They paid sticker price for Isaac Guerendo in pick 123, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 149
They reached a country mile for Luke McCaffrey at Round 4, Pick 26, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 135
A reach on Roger Rosengarten in the 127th pick; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 182
They liked Ty'Ron Hopper enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 169. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Dominique Hampton · S · rank 235
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Dominique Hampton well ahead of where he belonged. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Cedric Johnson · DE-EDGE · rank 226
Cedric Johnson in No. 219 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Donovan Jennings · OT · rank 239
They did well to land Donovan Jennings in pick No. 245, just ahead of his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Kalen DeLoach · S · rank 248
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kalen DeLoach in the 255th overall pick. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
