You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Packers did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. There is no dressing it up: a F.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Barrett value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with quarterback still staring back at them.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a disruptor off the edge, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tyler Nubin in pick 41. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A slide stopped in slot 57, with Tyler Guyton worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
They read the board right and Sedrick Van Pran was the payoff at the 99th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
Jarrian Jones in No. 135 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They barely believed it either: Michael Barrett still on the board at the Round 6 slot. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jordan Magee at Round 6, Pick 42 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Sheridan Jones in pick 219 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Joshua Cephus at the 246th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A need, and now a little less of one.
