The board owed the Packers one, and it paid up: Jake Majors, the No. 95 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 5 slot like a gift left on the doorstep.
If Wedig pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a run-stuffing presence up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
Donovan Jackson at slot 58 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No edge and no loss on Jermari Harris in Round 3, Pick 27; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Luke Kandra is a better player than the 127th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
The board fumbled Jake Majors all the way to pick No. 162, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Robert Spears-Jennings at No. 201 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Trey Wedig in the 242nd pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jack Kiser at pick 250 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
