You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with Jalen Sundell in the Round 6 slot.
Landing Jones that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a bendy edge with upside. The biggest hole, addressed.
They talked themselves into Zach Frazier at pick 41, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jaylen Wright in slot 58 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No drama and no debate, Dominick Puni went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Cole Bishop. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jarvis Brownlee Jr. slid further than he should have, and the 125th pick is lovely value for the cornerback. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jarrian Jones at slot 168 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jalen Sundell this early at pick 201. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A conviction pick on Trevin Wallace at No. 219 that the board grades a round light. A minor itch, scratched.
Taulia Tagovailoa at pick No. 245 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Evan Williams in the Round 7 slot. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
