When a board-topper like Nicholas Singleton slides to the 217th pick, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Leonard has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
Travis Hunter at No. 4 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A tidy little value on Isaiah Bond in pick No. 38, a step better than break-even. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Riley Leonard at slot 69 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Kaleb Johnson was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier running back value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Cam Skattebo in the 105th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
Quinshon Judkins at pick 143 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Nicholas Singleton in Round 7, Pick 1 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kamren Fabiculanan. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
