Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Kool-Aid McKinstry got past him. The Chiefs do not have to explain a thing at pick 184.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
Brenden Rice at the 95th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Javon Foster in pick 125 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took Isaac Guerendo at par in No. 130, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kool-Aid McKinstry in pick No. 184 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They will replay McKinnley Jackson at Round 6, Pick 27 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Somehow Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint was still sitting there in the Round 7 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Sheridan Jones at the 255th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
