Start where it matters. The Cardinals took Michael Penix Jr. to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
Every board in the league had Jean-Baptiste lower, and that gap is the story. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The Isaac value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.
So much rides on Michael Penix Jr. that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In pick 9 they get a weapon on the perimeter, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Nate Wiggins slipping to the 43rd overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Brandon Dorlus at slot 66 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Adisa Isaac in pick No. 82 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nothing to complain about; Dominick Puni went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jalen McMillan in the 104th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Javontae Jean-Baptiste. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Beaux Limmer reach pick No. 162 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A big swing on Julian Pearl at No. 191, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A real head-scratcher, Daijahn Anthony in the 226th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
