The Cowboys did not so much draft Davin Vann as overpay for him, 92 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
That Rourke pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 12 they get a three-down runner at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
In No. 19 they get a wrecking ball inside at fair value.
By-the-book stuff, Jalen Royals at the 62nd overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nick Nash in the 170th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached into another round for Davin Vann, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
No edge and no loss on Chase Lundt in pick No. 174; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Kurtis Rourke in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Maxen Hook in slot 249 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It adds depth where they could use a little.
