Thirty-one other rooms let Smael Mondon Jr. slide, and the Cowboys were the ones holding the card at Round 6, Pick 12. Highway robbery.
They will need West to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 12 they get a lead back with juice, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Jihaad Campbell at the 44th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for Jared Ivey in slot 76, and that is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Value with a capital V on Kyren Lacy in the 150th overall pick, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had Logan Brown higher than No. 170, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Addison West in the Round 5 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had cheaper options than Cobee Bryant at pick No. 174, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board fumbled Smael Mondon Jr. all the way to Round 6, Pick 12, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They robbed the room for Dont'e Thornton Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They barely believed it either: Kyle Monangai still on the board at the 249th overall pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
