Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Commanders spent pick No. 253 on Jesus Gibbs, a name most had 109 spots down the list.
The Barrett steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Bottom line, with Bo Nix leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
Bo Nix at the 40th pick is money in the bank, a quarterback taken below his worth. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
T.J. Tampa in slot 64 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Payton Wilson at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Zak Zinter at the 100th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Matt Goncalves at pick No. 115 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Malik Washington in Round 4, Pick 31. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Beaux Limmer in the 135th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Kris Abrams-Draine at pick 141 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nice patience on Cam Hart, who had no business lasting to the Round 5 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Somehow Roger Rosengarten was still sitting there in pick No. 197, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
By-the-book stuff, Jared Wiley at Round 6, Pick 31 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Kenny Logan Jr. in the 209th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Javon Baker at slot 210 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Tanor Bortolini in No. 212 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Sam Hartman at par in pick 213, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Michael Barrett in Round 6, Pick 40 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
A slide stopped in No. 217, with Jawhar Jordan worth more than the price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Fair-plus on Mark Perry, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jesus Gibbs this early at the 253rd overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
