The Packers bet big and early on Raheim Sanders, 95 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Whatever Drake Maye becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 7 they get a long-term answer under center. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Calen Bullock at par in the 39th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Morgan. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Value said wait; Darius Robinson in No. 71 says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Raheim Sanders in pick 82 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They reached into another round for Jordan Burch, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid a round early for Luke Lachey in Round 4, Pick 35, more than the board wanted. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Christian Mahogany at pick 185 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
They reached a country mile for Payton Wilson at pick No. 217, and the board is aghast. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A real head-scratcher, Josh Proctor in No. 219 is miles ahead of his ranking. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A wild overpay on Eric Gentry in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
