When the story of this class is written, it opens with Bub Means at pick 225, a reach of 36 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The veteran additions, Germaine Pratt chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A premium they did not need to pay, Jackson Powers-Johnson a notch or two before his time. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Edgerrin Cooper at the 37th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
No drama and no debate, T.J. Tampa went about where he belonged in No. 49. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reach for Mekhi Wingo in slot 104; a little patience would have been rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Dallin Holker in pick 139 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A tidy bit of business in No. 182, where Dillon Johnson graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A big swing on Bub Means at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Evan Williams at slot 253. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
