It is the swing that defines the weekend: Evan Williams in pick No. 169, a good 63 spots before the room expected him.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. It is not that Colson is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Beebe.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get protection for the quarterback, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Edgerrin Cooper at No. 41 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A want over a need in pick 58: Junior Colson adds a linebacker while edge rusher, cornerback and other spots keeps waiting.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Cooper Beebe in the 88th pick, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
By-the-book stuff, MarShawn Lloyd at pick No. 91 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They reached a country mile for Tykee Smith at Round 4, Pick 26, and the board is aghast. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Evan Williams at slot 169 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They reached into another round for Jacob Monk, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jaylon Carlies at the Round 6 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
A big swing on LaDarius Henderson at Round 7, Pick 25, well ahead of any board in the building. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They talked themselves into Jalen Sundell at pick 255, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
