This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Nicholas Singleton, the No. 102 name on the board, stolen at the Round 7 slot.
The cost of the Jefferson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 15 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
They did well to land Tyler Warren in the 49th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They jumped the gun on Luke Kandra, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.
They barely believed it either: Deone Walker still on the board at the Round 3 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
You do not let a linebacker like Deontae Lawson reach slot 116 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board fumbled Danny Stutsman all the way to pick 152, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Sebastian Castro in No. 154 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Nicholas Singleton in the 224th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for KJ Jefferson. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Aubrey Burks at No. 251 is the proof. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
