Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Javon Bullard, the No. 66 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 88th pick. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Reaching for Randolph Jr. left real value on the table behind him.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a press-man option on the boundary. The biggest hole, addressed.
A reach on Jackson Powers-Johnson in Round 2, Pick 9; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No drama and no debate, Edgerrin Cooper went about where he belonged in slot 57. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Javon Bullard at the 88th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
No edge and no loss on Bucky Irving in the 91st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They did well to land Sataoa Laumea in No. 125, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A real head-scratcher, Keith Randolph Jr. in pick No. 135 is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Josh Proctor at pick 203 is the proof. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They read the board right and Omar Speights was the payoff at the 217th overall pick. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
They let Jawhar Jordan come to them and pounced at the Round 6 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Dwight McGlothern a notch or two before his time. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
