Somebody in pick No. 244 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Johnny Dixon, the No. 200 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Fisher has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
Jackson Powers-Johnson at the 24th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A premium they did not need to pay, Blake Fisher a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They took MarShawn Lloyd at par in Round 3, Pick 24, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cornelius Johnson in No. 174 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Edefuan Ulofoshio is a better player than the 216th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jaylan Ford at slot 233 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Somehow Johnny Dixon was still sitting there in pick No. 244, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
