Call it larceny. Johnny Dixon sat on the board until slot 217, and the Packers did not need to be asked twice. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They will need Robinson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get a sticky cover corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Nothing to complain about; Kamren Kinchens went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A quiet steal in the Round 2 slot: Devontez Walker for less than the market said. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Sedrick Van Pran at pick 88, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Darius Robinson in slot 91, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Cedric Gray in No. 125 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A minor itch, scratched.
A wild overpay on Jaylen Wright in Round 4, Pick 35, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Curtis Jacobs at the 203rd pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Johnny Dixon at the 217th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached a country mile for Demani Richardson at the 219th pick, and the board is aghast. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Steal is underselling it; J.J. Weaver at pick 246 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
