The search is over. The Commanders handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
If Dankwah pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. On value alone, Smith makes the weekend a net positive.
The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
They let Graham Barton come to them and pounced at slot 36. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Keon Coleman in No. 40; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Brandon Dorlus in pick 67 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
Andru Phillips at the Round 3 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A wild overpay on Theo Johnson in Round 4, Pick 2, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Cornelius Johnson at pick No. 139 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Tykee Smith at the 179th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor itch, scratched.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Anim Dankwah in pick 222, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
