The Packers clearly saw something nobody else did in Evan Williams, taking him 52 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
The Sanders steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 25 they get protection for the quarterback at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
They did well to land Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in slot 41, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jonathon Brooks in the 57th pick is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid up for Tykee Smith at No. 88 when waiting would have done the job. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Ja'Tavion Sanders at pick 91 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jaylen Wright at the 126th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had Jaylin Simpson higher than slot 168, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached a country mile for Tanor Bortolini at pick 203, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Nathaniel Watson well ahead of where he belonged. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They reached into another round for Evan Williams, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Dwight McGlothern in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
