Nobody had Evan Williams this high, and it is not close. The Packers reached 36 spots to get him at the 246th overall pick. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Davis. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 26 they get a potential shutdown corner, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A conviction pick on Edgerrin Cooper at the 41st pick that the board grades a round light. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jackson Powers-Johnson at Round 2, Pick 25 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
McKinnley Jackson in the 88th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Darius Robinson at the Round 3 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid a round early for Jaden Hicks in pick No. 91, more than the board wanted. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Javon Foster at the 125th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jaylen Wright at the 135th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Isaiah Davis in Round 6, Pick 28 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They jumped the gun on J.J. Weaver, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Demani Richardson at No. 219 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
They talked themselves into Evan Williams at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
