When a board-topper like Maason Smith slides to pick No. 168, you do not overthink it, and the Packers did not.
The Wright reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a sticky cover corner at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jackson Powers-Johnson a notch or two before his time. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 25, where Devontez Walker graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Junior Colson at the Round 3 slot. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They paid up for Jaden Hicks at the 91st overall pick when waiting would have done the job. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Jaylen Wright in slot 126 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A DT-EDGE of that caliber at pick No. 168 is the definition of value, full stop. The roster logic is harder to follow.
Christian Jones in No. 203 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Ty'Ron Hopper at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Somehow Michael Wiley was still sitting there in pick 243, and they pounced on premier running back value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A wild overpay on Dwight McGlothern in slot 251, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
