Green Bay Packers

More right than wrong for the Packers, and a B- to prove it.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Packers took Evan Williams a full 55 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

They banked enough surplus on Smith-Wade to cover a lot of smaller sins. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 51
In slot 25 they get a cornerstone up front, though the board says they badly overpaid. A real need, handled.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Kris Jenkins · DL-EDGE · rank 44
A straight-up fair deal on Kris Jenkins at Round 2, Pick 9, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 56
Edgerrin Cooper in pick No. 57 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Malachi Corley · WR · rank 76
They let Malachi Corley come to them and pounced at the Round 3 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 107
A premium they did not need to pay, Jaden Hicks a notch or two before his time. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Jaylen Wright · RB · rank 163
Jaylen Wright in No. 126 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · LaDarius Henderson · OT · rank 169
LaDarius Henderson in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Chau Smith-Wade · CB · rank 168
Chau Smith-Wade in pick 203 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · JD Bertrand · LB · rank 205
JD Bertrand at Round 6, Pick 41 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Daequan Hardy · CB · rank 241
They took Daequan Hardy at par in slot 243, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · Evan Williams · S · rank 306
A big swing on Evan Williams at No. 251, well ahead of any board in the building. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
