The Packers put a flag in the ground for Jaylen Wright, 32 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. On value alone, Simpson makes the weekend a net positive.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a sticky cover corner at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Edgerrin Cooper at the 41st pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. It adds depth where they could use a little.
No drama and no debate, T'Vondre Sweat went about where he belonged in No. 57. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nice patience on Johnny Wilson, who had no business lasting to slot 88. A need, and now a little less of one.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Cooper Beebe at the Round 3 slot is the proof. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jaylen Wright in the 126th overall pick, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They read the board right and Jaylin Simpson was the payoff at Round 5, Pick 32. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy little value on Christian Jones in the 203rd pick, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A straight-up fair deal on Darius Muasau at the 216th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
By-the-book stuff, Demani Richardson at No. 243 squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Evan Williams well ahead of where he belonged. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
