Green Bay Packers

The Packers checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

You can usually follow a front office's logic. This one is harder. The Packers spent No. 88 on Jaden Hicks while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots sat unaddressed. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

Melton has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They banked enough surplus on Davis to cover a lot of smaller sins.

A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.4 · Pick 36 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 34
Kamren Kinchens at the 36th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 57
They jumped the gun on Edgerrin Cooper, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Jonathon Brooks · RB · rank 60
Jonathon Brooks in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 77
The board had cheaper options than Cooper Beebe at slot 67, and it noticed. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 107
A curious use of pick 88. Edge rusher, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Jaden Hicks did not.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Max Melton · CB · rank 111
Max Melton at the 91st pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Sataoa Laumea · OT · rank 122
A reasonable price with a little left over, Sataoa Laumea in pick No. 126. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.2 · Pick 138 · Jaylen Wright · RB · rank 158
Jaylen Wright at the 138th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Javon Baker · WR · rank 180
A reach on Javon Baker in No. 168; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Jaylin Simpson · CB · rank 151
Jaylin Simpson at pick 169 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Isaiah Davis · RB · rank 184
Steal is underselling it; Isaiah Davis at No. 203 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 197
Somehow Christian Jones was still sitting there in the 216th overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Nathaniel Watson · LB · rank 240
Nathaniel Watson in pick No. 243 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
