The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is McConkey. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Every board in the league had Sinnott lower, and that gap is the story.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Drake Maye at par in the Round 1 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jordan Morgan in the 34th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Ladd McConkey in slot 68 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ben Sinnott. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No edge and no loss on Jaylin Simpson in pick No. 137; it is a wash and a sensible one. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Steele Chambers at pick 180 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A minor itch, scratched.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cornelius Johnson in No. 193. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Caedan Wallace at the 231st overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
