You build a draft on nights like this. Colston Loveland had no business being available in the 100th pick, and the Commanders did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It grades a D, and the process earned it.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th pick they get a press-man option on the boundary. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In pick No. 15 they get an island corner, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick 22 they get protection for the quarterback at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Abdul Carter still on the board at slot 39. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Somehow Tre Harris was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Steal is underselling it; Colston Loveland at No. 100 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Sonny Styles in the 138th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board fumbled J. Michael Sturdivant all the way to Round 6, Pick 14, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
