Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers let Owens fall and pounced. Final grade: B+.

2024 NFL Draft
· 11 picks
· 3 steals
· 1 reaches
If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Chargers, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. No fireworks, but a solid B+.
The Owens pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They will need Nugent to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Troy Fautanu in No. 27, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in the 35th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Chris Braswell at Round 2, Pick 5 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had Junior Colson higher than the 66th overall pick, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Christian Haynes at pick No. 69 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ja'Lynn Polk at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on MarShawn Lloyd in Round 4, Pick 6; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nothing to complain about; Theo Johnson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Drake Nugent at No. 183 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Josh Proctor at the Round 7 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Tyler Owens in the 256th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
