The war room fell hard for Deontae Lawson, and it showed at the 45th pick: 36 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Spending an early pick on safety with quarterback, wide receiver and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The Marshall Jr. steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Wyatt Milum in the Round 1 slot, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Deontae Lawson in slot 45, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nothing to complain about; Malachi Moore went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A surprising call. With quarterback, wide receiver and other spots still to address, they spent the 115th pick on Lathan Ransom, a safety they were not short of.
Jason Marshall Jr. at the 149th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A minor itch, scratched.
