They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop.
The Jones steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The Paul reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
Ja'Tavion Sanders in pick 38 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
They talked themselves into Patrick Paul at the 41st overall pick, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
A premium they did not need to pay, Ja'Lynn Polk a notch or two before his time. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Xavier Legette in No. 73 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kitan Oladapo at pick No. 136 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy bit of business in the 179th pick, where Kamal Hadden graded well above the range. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Circle this one: Elijah Jones at slot 231 is a fall that decides a draft. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
