The Packers did enough to get by: C+.

The war room fell hard for Blake Watson, and it showed at pick No. 251: 27 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. For now it grades a C+, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.

That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They banked enough surplus on Beebe to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Hit on Tyler Nubin and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Tyler Nubin · S · rank 39
In the Round 1 slot they get a centerfielder for the defense, reach and all. More want than need.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 42
No drama and no debate, Edgerrin Cooper went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 9. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Kiran Amegadjie · OT · rank 65
Kiran Amegadjie in slot 58 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 76
Cooper Beebe at the 88th pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Isaac Guerendo · RB · rank 111
Value said wait; Isaac Guerendo in No. 91 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Jarrian Jones · CB · rank 149
A big swing on Jarrian Jones at pick 127, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Khristian Boyd · DL-EDGE · rank 179
They liked Khristian Boyd enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 168. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.29 · Pick 204 · JD Bertrand · LB · rank 211
JD Bertrand at pick 204 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Tip Reiman · TE · rank 225
Tip Reiman at the Round 6 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Marcellas Dial · CB · rank 262
They talked themselves into Marcellas Dial at slot 243, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · Blake Watson · RB · rank 278
Blake Watson in the 251st pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
