The Patriots went off the board in a big way for Jasheen Davis, 195 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Marks. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The back end got a real overhaul.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get a sticky cover corner. More want than need.
Wyatt Milum at slot 38 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jalen Royals in the 69th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Dylan Sampson at Round 3, Pick 13 is the proof. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jalen McLeod at the 105th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jasheen Davis well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They barely believed it either: Cobee Bryant still on the board at slot 219. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Jaylen Reed in pick No. 222 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Woody Marks all the way to pick 240, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
