Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Adam Randall at the 225th pick is 50 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Hard to defend, and the D+ reflects that.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 4 they get a workhorse for the backfield. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They paid a round early for Joshua Josephs in pick No. 35, more than the board wanted. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
By-the-book stuff, Jacob Rodriguez at slot 66 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jake Slaughter in Round 3, Pick 21 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board had Ted Hurst higher than the 101st overall pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Davison Igbinosun at pick 115 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A straight-up fair deal on J.C. Davis at No. 136, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Matt Gulbin at the Round 5 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Louis Moore at pick 144 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A minor itch, scratched.
A wild overpay on Nadame Tucker in Round 5, Pick 15, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No edge and no loss on Josh Cameron in the 184th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They let Kaleb Elarms-Orr come to them and pounced at pick No. 194. The roster fit checks out.
They robbed the room for Dae'Quan Wright here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Adam Randall this early at the 225th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reach for Eli Heidenreich in the 229th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
