The curious call sets the tone. With quarterback, wide receiver and other spots still glaring, the Packers used slot 91 on Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE they were not exactly short of.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They are betting McGlothern proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They banked enough surplus on Speights to cover a lot of smaller sins.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a lockdown presence outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kamren Kinchens in slot 41 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It adds depth where they could use a little.
By-the-book stuff, Chris Braswell at pick 57 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board had Cooper Beebe higher than Round 3, Pick 25, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Maason Smith at DT-EDGE with quarterback, wide receiver and other spots open.
A reach for Will Shipley in the 125th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Malik Mustapha in the 135th overall pick leaves quarterback, wide receiver and other spots for later.
A tidy little value on Christian Jones in No. 203, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jawhar Jordan in the Round 6 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Omar Speights in slot 219. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They jumped the gun on Dwight McGlothern, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
