Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Will Howard got past him. The Cardinals do not have to explain a thing at the 153rd pick.
Reaching for Jackson left real value on the table behind him. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 23 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid sticker price for JT Tuimoloau in pick 47, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Donovan Jackson in No. 54, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reach for Carson Schwesinger in the Round 3 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A tidy little value on Lathan Ransom in the 114th pick, a step better than break-even. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Nick Nash at slot 123 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They robbed the room for Will Howard here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Hollin Pierce in Round 5, Pick 21 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
